materials, and follow proper practices.
Key Candle Safety Tips
Never Leave Burning Candles Unattended: Always stay within eyesight of burning candles. If you leave the room or go to sleep, extinguish the candle to prevent fire hazards.
Use Stable, Heat-Resistant Surfaces: Place candles on stable, heat-resistant surfaces away from anything flammable, such as curtains, bedding, or furniture.
Trim the Wick: Before each use, trim the wick to about 5mm to prevent high flames and excessive soot. A long wick can lead to unstable flames and increased fire risk. If a soot ball forms on the end of the wick extinguish the candle and trim the wick
Avoid Drafts: Keep candles away from drafts, vents, and air currents to prevent uneven burning and potential flare-ups. Drafts can also blow lightweight items into the flame, creating a fire hazard.
Keep Candles Out of Reach: Ensure that candles are kept out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidental fires.
Burn Candles in Well-Ventilated Areas: Always burn candles in well-ventilated rooms to minimize soot build-up and ensure proper air circulation.
Extinguish Properly: Use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame. Avoid using water to extinguish candles, as it can cause hot wax to splatter.
Don’t Burn Candles All the Way Down: Stop burning when about 10mm of wax remains to prevent the candle holder from overheating.
Maintain Distance Between Candles: If burning multiple candles, keep them at least 7.5 cm apart to prevent them from melting each other or creating drafts.
By following these safety instructions, you can enjoy the ambiance of candles while minimising the risk of fire hazards in your home. Always prioritise safety and be mindful of your surroundings when using candles.
